Aerospace, Engineering and Naval Science Technology Academy

Mission Statement: The purpose of this academy is to make students aware of the career opportunities available to them in Aerospace, Engineering and Naval Science Technology , provide instruction to prepare students for entry level positions and/or provide preparation for post secondary programs for professional careers in these fields. The academy will also provide career shadowing opportunities, internships and co-curricular activities related to careers in aerospace, engineering and the United States Navy. The academy will also provide state of the art instruction with strong linkages to math and science curricular related to aerospace and engineering careers. Students participating in the academy will also receive a comprehensive challenging academic curriculum in all subject areas.

Academy Goals
· Academic preparation for students entering post-secondary programs.
· Establish potential career focus for students.
· Expose students to the world of work through potential career activities such as shadowing professionals, working with mentors, and serving internships in aerospace and engineering environments.
· Prepare students to use state of the art technologies that they will encounter in the aerospace and engineering technology field.
· Instruct students so they can apply knowledge gained to solve problems and use technology related to aerospace and engineering technology.

Academy Objectives
· Meet competency-based curriculum objectives for mathematics and science in related areas.
· Meet Florida Sunshine State Standards for Technology Education Courses
· Provide students with computer literacy skills.
· Prepare scientifically literate students.
· Meet International Technology Education Association Standards for technology education courses.

Academy Competencies
Students will know and be able to apply scientific knowledge to solving real world problems.
Students will have competent computer skills.
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and use of the scientific method as a means of investigation.
Students will develop professional presentation skills.
Students will demonstrate the proper use of tools, materials and processes in a safe and appropriate manner.
Students will develop portfolios to document their knowledge, skills, and competencies.
Students will investigate career opportunities and make career choices based on experience.
Students will demonstrate competencies through participation in competitions, expositions and co-curricular
activities.
