Visual And Performing Arts

Mission Statement
Musicians, actors, dancers, and visual artists have a unique opportunity to explore their art form in this academy. Students will be nurtured in the understanding of varied forms of human expression and the appreciation of excellence in their work and the work of other artists. The academy will provide exposure to a variety of career-related curriculum experiences, empowering students to grow as professional artists. Extensive state-of-the-art professional facilities and resources will give our students unparalleled opportunities to grow as artists. Preparation for university or conservatory programs and scholarships will be an integral part of the program.

Academy Program Strands:
· Dance: Choreography and Performance
· Music: Instrumental (Band, Orchestra, Guitar and Keyboard) and Vocal
· Television Production: Broadcasting and Journalism
· Theatre Arts: Performance and Stagecraft
· Visual Arts: Ceramics, Computer Art, Drawing and Painting, Photography

Academy Goals:
· Develop talent and skills so that student may reach a high level of excellence and professionalism
· Prepare students academically for entrance into post-secondary programs.
· Establish potential career focus for students.
· Expose students to the world of work through potential career activities such as shadowing professionals, working with mentors, and serving internships in visual and performing arts environments.
· Prepare students to use state of the art technologies that they will encounter in the visual and performing arts careers.
· Instruct students so they can apply knowledge and skills gained to solve problems and use technology related to the visual and performing arts.

· Meet competency-based curriculum objectives for the visual and performing arts.
· Meet Florida Sunshine State Standards for the visual and performing arts.
· Develop artistic discipline with a sense of commitment, focus, dedication and professional attitude.
· Develop communication skills and an earned sense of self-confidence and self-esteem.
· Foster skills in collaboration, time management and organizational strategies.
· Provide students with a knowledge and understanding of their community and the world in which they live.
