I’d like to welcome everyone back for another exciting school year.  The 2007-2008 year looks to be every bit as promising as the 2006-07 school year.  Last year provided Varela with over 10 first team All-Dade athletes, numerous district, county and regional championships and it brought us our first State Championship in Boys Soccer.  Varela finished #8 out of 33 High Schools in Miami Dade County for the best overall Athletic Program.  This ranking was achieved because of all the hard work our athletes and our coaching staff had put in throughout the year.  Our goal here at Varela is to create an atmosphere that promotes academic success as well as athletic success.  We believe in helping our athletes develop high moral standards and ethical values, develop a competitive winning attitude, and demonstrate excellent sportsmanship while encouraging commitment to personal and team goals.  I would like to encourage anyone interested in participating in athletics to stop by and see me in the Athletic Office.  Additionally, I would like to invite all parents, faculty, staff, and students to come out and support us this year.  You make a difference!  Finally, if I can be of any assistance throughout the year please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I hope you have a great year.
